11-Glenoaks Desert Wash

This garden is a kid-friendly pollinator bonanza in the form of a desert wash. This stylized arroyo features berms popping with texture & color, criss-crossed with walking paths, all set in gravel and stone. Two large, sculptural succulents and a big boulder anchor the garden to the house, while two Palo Verde trees balance the yard and add privacy from the street. The stone-studded mounds feature a restrained palette including plants like Salvia apiana, Calliandra californica, Penstemon spectabilis, and Epilobiums. Grasses and Matilija poppies supply softness and motion to the space — countered by the spiny stiffness of an Ocotillo.
