Island morning glory, Ceanothus, and sage slip through an iron fence to greet travelers on their way to the nearby Metro station. This Certified Wildlife Habitat wraps an historic workman’s cottage in one of Santa Monica’s most urban neighborhoods. Inside its gate, decomposed granite paths invite visitors and wildlife to explore beds filled with white and bubblegum pink buckwheat, aromatic bee’s bliss and pitcher sage, and dainty blue and golden-eyed grass. Annual Clarkias surround raised vegetable beds. The flower-filled garden also features an outdoor gathering space, a small biological pond, recycled hardscape, subsurface irrigation, rain barrels, and infiltration pits.
