About the Garden

A modern ranch home draped in contrast. The front yard is wrapped in Accoya wood fencing, charred by fire using the Japanese method of Yakisugi. A lone Engelmann oak is surrounded by a swaying field of canyon prince wild rye. Gravel paving and intermittent concrete bands create structured informality throughout. A hot tub surrounded by sculptural chaparral in the rear yard doubles as an outdoor theater, while nearby, an informal dining area is shaded by a sleek retractable awning. Raw materials, blurred boundaries and a locally native plant palette merge to bring the spirit of the wild closer to home.
