About the Garden

This garden elicits JOY! We were initially drawn to the home mainly due to one of the largest California live oaks we’d ever seen in a residential setting—but otherwise the yard was covered with grass, agapanthus, aloes, palm trees, oleanders and a bunch of weeds. The oak was the anchor which dictated the direction the garden needed to take. Today we have a wonderful native garden that grounds the oaks and the home. We’re shocked how quickly the temperature, insect population and bird population all changed once we removed the non-natives and started feeding the soil by lasagna mulching. Native gardening can be a slow and meditative process—but the journey is well worth it.
