Estate planning and probate attorney by day, Test Plot native plant garden steward by weekend, Joey Farewell — and his British wife Becky — have transformed their once-concrete backyard into a thriving oasis of coastal sage scrub and riparian habitat. Beneath the canopy of young California sycamores, their garden layers sunflowers, fuchsia, evening primrose, desert grape, wild roses, and native bunchgrasses to form a dense pollinator corridor and wildlife habitat. The space now teems with birds, butterflies, and three lively children, all overlooked by a streamlined ADU that doubles as a perch for observation (and the afternoon pint).
