About the Garden

In 2014, we started the garden to better understand where we live and to create a stronger connection to the land. Because of the difficulty of the site, located on a steep, southfacing hill with afternoon sun and fast-draining soil, we have found that the more hyperlocal the plants the more successful they are in the garden. In the front yard we are reestablishing an oak grove, with the help of two mature coast live oaks and their many seedlings. The back yard is a steep terraced hillside covered in wild plants and wildlife.
