Get Involved: Be a Docent on the Tour!
Each year, the Native Plant Garden Tour inspires thousands of Southern Californians by displaying the beauty and versatility of native plant landscaping. The tour features upwards of 35 gardens, each with their own unique features and challenges. From school gardens where students play and learn amongst poppies, to bungalows with yards bursting with pollinators, every garden has a story to tell. As a volunteer docent for the native plant garden tour, you’ll get to help tell that story!
When you sign up to be a docent, you’ll get matched to a garden and its caretakers— the homeowners, landscapers, or staff that plant, prune, weed, and water it. You’ll learn directly from its stewards so that on the day of the tour, you can advocate and celebrate that garden with its hundreds of visitors.
No matter your level of knowledge or experience, we’ll help you make the day a success. We’ll provide you with training in the form of an orientation, a Garden Tour t-shirt to wear with pride, as well as a Guidebook full of photos and information. Since the Tour takes place over two days, you’ll get to use that guidebook as a ticket to visit gardens on whatever day you’re not volunteering.
