37-Hidden Canyon Garden

After we bought the 4-acre property in 2003, we immediately planted coast live oaks, western sycamore and toyons. A half-acre of land was donated for urban farming and is currently farmed by Edible Gardens LA. About 8 years later, I started working with my friend and designer, Fi Campbell Landscapes, who envisioned the entire property. Fi created usable outdoor spaces for entertaining and relaxing, incorporating a native meadow and a fire pit which is surrounded by several species of Manzanitas. As the oaks and sycamores matured over the years, we’ve transitioned a portion of the garden to a more sculptural palette with more shade friendly plants such as Ceanothus, hummingbird sage, and Heuchera.
